Introducing Students to Contemporary Art

After School Visits

Engaging and Relevant

Contemporary art has a way of captivating students, drawing associations to real issues surrounding them and making it relevant to their lives.

New Jersey Museum of Contemporary Art gives students, from elementary school through high school, the opportunity to experience extraordinary contemporary art and encourages them to make connections between skills they are developing in school and the visual arts.

Docent-led tours of “It’s All American,” crafted by museum professional, Angela Scannella, and a personal presentation for the high school groups by artist, Robert Melee, engaged hundreds of students in discussions and critical thinking about the world around them using an inquiry based approach.

These free school programs, organized for NJMoCA by art educator, Laura Petrovich-Cheney, inspired the youngsters by the exhibition’s new perspectives, and in turn, they inspired us with their own profound interpretations.

NJMoCA will continue to provide students and teachers with opportunities to explore each of its exhibitions and to respond to original works of art through observation techniques, critical thinking skills, and the expression of personal ideas.
